Energy Star

What Is ENERGY STAR?

ENERGY STAR is a government-backed certification program that identifies products meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines. ENERGY STAR certified windows, doors, and skylights are independently tested and verified to perform better than standard products.

How Windows Qualify

To earn the ENERGY STAR label, windows must meet performance criteria set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Requirements vary by climate zone. In the Northern climate zone (which includes the San Francisco Bay Area), certified windows typically have:

  • Low U-factor for reduced heat loss
  • Appropriate Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) for the region
  • Dual-pane or triple-pane construction with insulating gas

Why It Matters

ENERGY STAR certified windows can significantly reduce energy bills and improve home comfort. Many manufacturers we work with — including Marvin, Milgard, Andersen, and Jeld-Wen — offer ENERGY STAR certified products suitable for Bay Area climate conditions.

Tax Credits and Incentives

In some years, federal tax credits or local utility rebates may be available for installing ENERGY STAR certified windows. Check with your tax advisor or utility provider for current programs.
