Low-E Glass
What Is Low-E Glass?
Low-E (low-emissivity) glass has a thin, transparent coating that reflects infrared light while allowing visible light to pass through. This reduces heat transfer through the window, improving insulation and comfort year-round.
How It Works
The low-E coating is typically applied to one or more surfaces of the glass in an insulated glass unit. It reflects heat back toward its source — keeping warmth inside in winter and outside in summer — while minimizing UV damage to furnishings.
Types of Low-E Coatings
Hard-coat (pyrolytic): Applied during manufacturing, durable and suitable for single-pane applications. Soft-coat (sputtered): Applied in a vacuum chamber, offers better performance and is used in most modern dual-pane and triple-pane windows.
Benefits for Bay Area Homes
Low-E glass helps Bay Area homeowners manage temperature swings, reduce glare, and protect interiors from UV fading. It is a standard feature in most energy efficient replacement windows we install.
